Education is key

For over 200 years, the Menthanga community had never owned a single school building or educational structure. Children were forced to walk long distances to neighboring villages in search of basic education, often on empty stomachs, while many others never had the opportunity to attend school at all.
Seeing these challenges firsthand, Ishmile Stanley Bangura Jr., an indigene of the Menthanga community, together with the Paramount Chief and other key stakeholders, decided it was time to create change.
With support from Freetown Terminal Limited, the dream of the community has finally become a reality.
Today, Menthanga proudly boasts a modern six-classroom primary school equipped with proper toilet facilities to promote good hygiene and a healthy learning environment.
On May 15, 2026, the Freetown Terminal Primary School was officially opened in the presence of the Minister of Basic Education and other distinguished dignitaries.
The children of Menthanga expressed overwhelming joy at finally having a school within their own community.
They pledged to work hard and ensure that one day the school will produce future lawyers, doctors, engineers, teachers, and national leaders.
Residents of the community reaffirmed that while outsiders may see just another school building, to the people of Menthanga it represents hope for a brighter future, hope for opportunity, and hope for generations yet unborn.
